NOTE LEARNING
We have been learning the names of the notes in both treble and bass staves. Recalling the letter names at speed is the hard part, so we have been using a great App on our ipads called "Note works" to help us.
We have also been creating resources to help others learn note names. We have been doing this using letter names or using the solfege system.

A beautiful day to practice our recorder playing outside.
We are learning the notes B,A,G, E and D. The lower notes are a challenge but practice makes perfect!

Nursery Rhymes and Lullabies
Today we recorded songs for our "Roots of Empathy" babies.
Here is a song that Room 23 taught me - a lovely way to learn your finger names.

Learning to compose
The Year 3 students are learning to compose music using materials, showing ascending and descending intervals. They are learning to point to pitches as they sing them and self correct where necessary. Here are some great examples for you.

Ha hey ho
In Room 18, this one of our favourite warm up games. The idea is to get the beat to stay steady with the words Ha, Hey, Ho. People are out if two students put their hands up at the same time, if they hesitate or if they give the incorrect instruction.
Room 6
Yesterday Room 6 had fun putting together another selection of drum rhythms. It required lots of focus but these boys did a great job.
See if you can pick out these patterns; "Cats, birds and cats", "Blacks birds, blue birds, red birds singing" and "I have a cat and her name is Jemima!"

Year 2 Someone's in the kitchen with Dinah
It's Friday and the Year 2's had a great time today, keeping our beat nice and steady with "Someone's in kitchen with Dinah". The children were so keen to sing and wanted their own microphones - who knew beaters could be so handy!

Drumming
Woo hoo! It's Thursday and we've graduated from buckets onto the real thing! Our rhythms are really clear - great job everyone!
multiple rhythms whilst keeping in time with the beat
Students try combining three patterns on their "drums". Listen out for each pattern. It's easy to play your own rhythm but can you make it fit with others around you into a pattern of 4 beats?
We had phrases to help with each pattern "In the winter", "Dressing up, nice and warm" and "Stoke the fire up"

Learning about ostinato patterns
The Year 3 & 4 students have been learning about staying in time with a steady beat. Today we used ostinato patterns to achieve this. It's one thing to get your pattern correct once but can we continue the pattern, keeping in time with this lovely Chiacona? :)

Room 15 March of the utensils
Using this wonderful orchestral piece, "The March of the Utensils", we tried to keep a steady beat in our bodies (whilst trying to be a kitchen utensil!). See if you can spot the knives and forks. There are a few plates and bowls on the move too.

Beat and Rhythm with Year 2
The Year 2 children are learning the difference between beat and rhythm. Today we represented the beat by the actions and the rhythm by what we sang.

Room 18 in deep concentration
We did some great rhythmic patterns today in music.
It's hard work with 2 other rhythms going on around us but we got there.
Concentration on a Thursday afternoon has got to be good for you!

In Week 2, Term 1, sign ups and auditions will be held for those students interested in joining ukulele, choir and instrumental groups.
To join the school band you must have a year to 18 months experience on your instrument and be confident in reading music. Assistance will be given at practices but you will need to be a keen learner who will commit to working on your pieces between school rehearsals.
Choir and School Band take place on a Friday afternoon and other groups rehearse during school lunchtimes.
Keep listening out for audition times.
See you there!
